Great sponsorship news!

The Dragoman Three Peaks challenge received generous support from Thrifty Car Rental who supplied them with a Ford Galaxy free of charge to get them from peak to peak. Their generosity means that all of the funds raised by the energetic team will go to Kariandusi School Trust (www.justgiving.com/drago-challenge). Thank you Thrifty.

Dragoman 3 Peaks Challenge on 27th, 28th June 2009

SnowdonA brave team from Dragoman took on the Three Peaks challenge to raise money for the Kariandusi School Trust Karunga School build. This strenuous challenge involves climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon within a 26 hour period. The team walked for 16 hours and drove for 10 between peaks, and hiked about 26 miles in total.

Your donations encouraged them enormously, and it's still not too late to reward their efforts.  www.justgiving.com/drago-challenge

Amazement All Round !

Simba SchoolAre dreams coming true?  On arrival in Gilgil this year we heard Simba Primary School’s head teacher had some great news for us.   We found him in a great state of excitement and so were all his staff.  The national primary school exam results had just been published and Simba had achieved one of the highest improvements in the Republic.  There is still some way to go but with a good headmaster, sufficient well lead staff and magnificent facilities the sky is the limit.  Lucky young Kenyans!

PS  KST handed over this beautiful new school to the local community in 2008.

Stating The Obvious ?

As if by chance, we have ‘discovered’ how best to raise the standard of education amongst rural Kenyans!  Provide sufficient teachers!  Thanks to the remarkable response to our plea for financial support during 2008’s tragic post-election chaos, some donors specified that their money should be spent on teachers’ salaries.  This was done and we now have 22 qualified teachers on KST’s books.  Why?  Because the Kenya Government cannot afford them and the children need them!
Please, please continue to help us keep our teachers in employment for the good of impoverished young Kenyans.

Rewarding Outstanding Results

Classroom of ChildrenTabitha Litunya was an out-of-work qualified teacher until she heard of a KST/PTA vacancy at Langalanga Primary School.  She was given Standard 1 to teach and after a year they produced the second highest results from 158 in Nakuru District.  KST and the parents agreed to give her a pay rise immediately.  She moved with the same children to Standard 2 (results awaited) and is now with them in Standard 3.  Lucky, lucky young children!  We need to keep Tabitha on our books.  Please help!

PS  KST handed over the greatly improved Langalanga Primary School to the local community in 2006.

Strengthening Literacy Skills

LibraryExcellent progress is being made towards our goal to equip the libraries, giving the children unprecedented access to books and teaching them to research their subjects to improve results.

Your help in the form of book donations is greatly appreciated, especially those of the "How it works" variety.   Also, Harry Potter and the sort of novels our own 10-11 year olds read are very welcome.

New classroom for St Peter's, Huruma, Kenya

Good news! A recent donation to Kariandusi School Trust of £5000 has started the funds for Karunga School.

Sterling's strengthening against the Kenyan shilling is also working in our favour..... the impact of the recent move alone is enough to refurbish a classroom at St Peter's Huruma.  Great stuff!
