Bringing hope through education. The Langalanga Scholarship Fund supports the education of bright but very needy young people from the impoverished area of the Rift Valley around the town of Gilgil in Kenya. Through the generous support of sponsors and donors secondary and tertiary education is made possible for the brightest and most ambitious children whose potential to make a difference would otherwise be lost. It provides the hope that poverty can be alleviated through education and the greatly increased chance of finding good employment. Through this the scholar's family, community and, in the long term, the nation will benefit. With our sister charity, the Kariandusi School Trust we aim to make a difference: "No man makes a greater mistake than he who does nothing because he could only do a little". |

There are a vast number of small charities all over the world who do a wonderful job. You've probably never even heard of them. They don't have swanky offices or air-conditioned Land Rovers or money to spend on expensive advertising. Every penny goes to people in need. But they struggle to survive because they simply can't afford their own fund-raising operations. |
| Many thanks to The Dulverton Trust and The Parthenon Trust. |

Dragoman, one of the UK's leading adventure overland companies, has been involved with the Kariandusi School Trust since 2003 when Charlie Hopkinson, one of the Directors, became a trustee. Ever since Dragoman was founded, the ethos of putting something back into the communities they visit has been central to the way they operate and this is reflected in their support for the Kariandusi Schools project and a number of other volunteer projects across the globe. |
| On all of their trips Dragoman have committed to minimizing the impact they have on the environment and the communities they visit and where possible support local charities and trusts. On certain trips within East Africa we visit the Kariandusi schools and actually camp there overnight. This is an amazing experience that allows passengers the opportunity to meet the children and to see how much difference we can really make. On these trips USD30 per person is donated to the Kariandusi School Trust (USD15 from the passengers and USD15 from Dragoman) and since 2005 donations of around GBP100,000 have been raised. This money is so important to the future of these children and to ensuring that there is on-going support for these schools. Passengers really enjoy these visits as it allows them to get involved and to help out with any on-going projects. These have included planting a Dragoman forest, installing a water pump and constructing a new toilet block. The following trips visit the projects: Chimps, gorillas and gameparks 15 nights - ZNN Nairobi to Zanzibar and gorillas 28 nights - EUD Nairobi to Cape Town via Namibia 6.5 weeks - ENE East African family safari 16 nights - FEA Dragoman operates tours in Africa, Asia and South America, ranging from exciting 2 week adventures to the life changing epics that can take you away for as long as 48 weeks. They also run a selection of unique family trips in Peru, Morocco, East and Southern Africa and India. For full details of all their trips please visit their web site. | |
