Donations for Langalanga Primary School

The Langalanga Primary School was the second of our projects but was a large leap forward in terms of scale. This was a much bigger project, twice the size and we realise very early on, that it would take far longer and cost a great deal more.

The total cost for the whole project was budgeted at approximately £85,000 and by and large this is what it finally cost when completed in September 2006.

We had a good head start as there were significant funds left over from the previous project, the Kariandusi Primary School. However, these funds were used up pretty quickly and we were very pleased to accept a most generous donation from the Jephcott Charitable Trust.

This was added to be the the 'marathon' efforts of Nigel Farthing, who funded much of the furniture for the school, after running the London Marathon in 2005.

The Langalanga project could never have progressed had it not been for the fund raising work done by Dragoman Overland over the last year. They are responsible for finding over £45,000 of the moneys raised over the first year and a half of KSTs existence. The bulk of the funding for this project came from the absolutely amazing efforts of the riders of the first two Dragoman Overland Kariandusi Cycle Challenges that took place in the summer of 2005. These riders raise over £35,000. These rides could only take place because of John Etherington of Escape Adventures who ran the cycling trips on the ground.

Thanks also to the Parthenon Trust, Tibor Moskovits, Mrs. JP Simpson and Mrs. Jill Norris, Madventurer (work on Library and Staffroom) Steven Johnstone (Sponsorship of the LL Football Club and major fundraiser during the 2005 Biker expedition), Annie Owen, Peter Ellse, Judy Simpson, and to the numerous cyclists, including Jill Norris, who raised mountains of cash.

A special thank you to Sheila Ravenscroft, our Vice Patron for her very big donation from sale of John Peel CDs. Thank you Sheila for your continued support.

Alison V-C and Mr Anam, the Deputy Headteacher outside the Sheila Ravenscroft Classroom...

Also thanks to Avient Airline who very kindly flew out numerous books to develop the library at Langalanga and to Dragoman Overland and the Dragoman passengers for all their work in collecting, tansporting and indexing these books for the library.

Finally a thank you to a most generous donation from AITO (the Association of Independent Tour Operators), who very kindly donated the Karandusi School Trust, a large cheque from an evening's auction of promises. This was awarded through Dragoman Overland, who we are pleased to say were awarded the AITO Responsible Tourism Award 2006, for their work with Kariandusi School Trust and other community involved tourism projects. The money from this award went a long way to help finish the final classrooms before the opening in September 2006.

If anyone feels that they have been missed out, our humble apologies, but you should find yourself on the General Donations page. Below we will list the main donors for this specific project.
