Pimary school committess meetingComputers and Books

An old friend of Harry V-C who just happens to own a transport airline that has business in Kenya, has very kindly agreed to fly goods to Kenya free of charge. This has meant that we have managed to fly computers and books out to Nairobi for use in a variety of schools. KST has liaised with the Langalanga Scholarship Fund - LLSF (another educational charity speciliasing in awarding scholarships to bright secondary children in the area) and with Computers for Schools Kenya (a charity based in Nairobi) to ensure that these computers and books get to the right places.

Langalanga Primary SchoolTodate this have meant:

  • We have taken 50 computers, over 80 large cardboard boxes of books and a variaty of football strips out to Kenya
  • Two provincial secondary schools (to which LLSF send its scholars) now offer Computer Studies as an examinable subject as a direct result of the gift. Computers for Schools Kenya, ensures that the receiving organisations are ready to receive these computers (security, electricity, maintenance contracts, teachers) before they are sent out.
  • 15 computers have been given to another local charities well known to Harry V-C
  • 5 computers have been placed in LLSF student accommodation for use as university aids to learning.
  • Happy Kids in SchoolEssential accounting software used by the university has also provided by LLSF
  • Thousands of reading books have been distributed to the primary schools with libraries that KST have already built (or are currently building). It is hard to comprehend how much excitement these books generate, but just imagine giving a class of British primary school kids a library full of the top 100 films and you come somewhere close to understanding.

We will continue to work on the transfer of such gifts will throughout 2007.
